Timberlab Holdings has entered into an agreement to acquire the assets of Diversified Wood Resources, operating under the name American Laminators, based in Oregon, US.

The acquisition will expand Timberlab’s operations in the region and support engineered wood products innovation.

As per the terms of the agreement, Timberlab will start operating glue-laminated timber (glulam) manufacturer American Laminators’ facilities in Drain and Swisshome from 10 June 2024.

The Drain and Swisshome sites use Douglas Fir and Alaskan Yellow Cedar to produce an annual capacity of 20 million feet of board.

Both facilities are set for operational upgrades aimed at product optimisation.

Diversified Wood Resources president Dave Anderson said: “This is a very exciting time for American Laminators and the future of our company. Timberlab’s culture and goals align with American Laminators.

“By combining our strengths and expertise, we are well-positioned to expand in the mass timber market while continuing to provide superior service, quality, and craftsmanship. We anticipate a seamless transition and are thrilled to be working together with the Timberlab team.”

The financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed.

American Laminators has supplied its products for domestic projects such as Autzen Stadium and the Cathedral of Christ the Light.

Timberlab has previously sourced glulam from American Laminators for the Multnomah County East County Library in Portland, US.

Timberlab president Christopher Evans said: “American Laminators has a rich history of producing high-quality glulam products. Their attention to detail and the quality of their products are fantastic. The addition of their team to our organisation will continue to translate into value for our clients.

“Following our announcement in March to build and operate a cross-laminated timber (CLT) manufacturing facility in the Mid-Willamette Valley, acquiring American Laminators is another leap forward to advancing our capabilities and services in the mass timber industry.”

In 2021, Swinerton formally launched Timberlab (previously Swinerton Mass Timber), which aims to accelerate the adoption of mass timber in the US commercial construction market.
